Update on the Framework for Clinical Quality Registries

The Commission, with an expert Advisory Group, has been revising the Framework for Australian Clinical Quality Registries (the Framework).

The Framework is a principles-based document that aims to help new, developing and well-established Clinical Quality Registries (CQRs) succeed as valuable contributors to a learning healthcare system.

To inform the revision, the Commission completed a national consultation process on the following documents:

  • Draft Framework (second edition)
  • Draft Australian CQR logical design and infrastructure guideline Second Edition
  • Draft Australian CQR security compliance guidelines Second Edition
  • Summary paper and case studies

Key findings

Throughout the consultation there was widespread support for the Framework and its potential to help promote CQRs as drivers of quality improvement in health care, establish expectations around how CQRs should be managed and operated, and drive digital modernisation to support CQR functions.

The consultation findings and recommendations have been considered and many have been incorporated into the next edition of the Framework.

Learn about the consultation process and the findings in the National Consultation Report on the Commission website.
