World AMR Awareness Week 2024 - Educate. Advocate. Act Now.

Join the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) during World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) from 18 – 24 November.

This year’s theme Educate. Advocate. Act Now. calls on us all – healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public – to improve our understanding of AMR, drive bold commitments and take meaningful actions to curb its spread.

AMR poses a significant threat to global health and sustainable healthcare. Cumulatively from 2025 to 2050, global forecasts predict AMR could be directly responsible for more than 39 million deaths and associated with 169 million more worldwide.

Aligned with the Commission’s commitment to addressing the health impacts of a changing climate, WAAW promotes sustainable, high-quality health care by raising awareness and improving understanding of AMR.

Antimicrobial Stewardship optimises evidence-based use of antimicrobials to minimise low-value care and prevent the development of resistance, thereby preserving this valuable resource.

Support WAAW in your health service. Explore the Commission’s updated resources, including quizzes, presentations, web banners and ideas for engaging activities to raise AMR awareness and advocate for action.
