Purpose of the National One Stop Shop
A streamlined and predictable operating environment is essential for a vibrant health and medical research ecosystem. Participants in the consultation identified that the One Stop Shop would improve health outcomes for Australians, support continuous improvement and sustainability of the health system, create jobs and build an innovation economy. It would maximise return on investment and promote Australia as a preferred destination for global leading research.
The National One Stop Shop would be an intuitive, single national approvals, research management and workflow system enabled through digital smart technology to harmonise systems and processes nationally. It would incorporate single national ethics and Site-Specific Assessment, enable authorisation and notification systems of the Therapeutic Goods Administration and the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator.
The platform would embed new accreditation requirements for trial sites under the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework. It would provide research management functionality for all trial sites and an embedded next generation national clinical trials and research registry and a cutting-edge website for the community. The proposal for the National One Stop Shop has been co-designed with all jurisdictions.
