Digital Mental Health Standards – Upcoming accreditation

The release of the National Safety and Quality Digital Mental Health (NSQDMH) Standards in November 2020 was a significant step in providing safety and quality assurance for digital mental health service users, and best practice guidance for service providers.

Accreditation scheme launch

Assessments conducted by approved accrediting agencies are scheduled to commence 1 November 2022.

The accreditation model, which operates under the Australian Health Service Safety and Quality Accreditation (AHSSQA) Scheme, is based on consultation with mental health experts and consumers.

The Commission will release more information and implementation resources in the coming months to support assessment to the NSQDMH Standards.

Self-assessment

To prepare for accreditation, service providers can use the Commission’s self-assessment tool to review the safety and quality of their digital mental health services.

The self-assessment tool and a how-to guide are available on the Commission’s website.

Consumers, carers and clinicians

It can be challenging to decide if a digital mental health service is the right one to use or recommend. The Commission has developed tip sheets and a checklist for consumers, carers and clinicians to help choose a digital mental health service.
