Background
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) has mapped the National Safety and Quality Digital Mental Health (NSQDMH) Standards against the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.
This resource is for those health service organisations currently required to meet the NSQHS Standards that also intend to be accredited against the voluntary NSQDMH Standards.
By mapping these two sets of standards health service organisations already being assessed to the NSQHS Standards can easily identify areas where they may be meeting the requirements of both standards. The mapping also makes it easier to understand where actions are unique to digital mental health.
For every action in the NSQDMH Standards, the mapping document shows whether there is a full or partial match or no match to the NSQHS Standards.
The mapping document should be used alongside the NSQDMH Standards – Guide for service providers which provides strategies and examples of evidence for implementing the NSQDMH Standards.

Information for health service organisations assessed to the NSQHS Standards
Health service organisations assessed to the NSQHS Standards who also deliver a digital mental health service may seek assessment to the voluntary NSQDMH Standards. Actions which directly map to the NSQHS Standards do not need to be readdressed during an assessment to the NSQDMH Standards where already considered for a NSQHS Standards assessment.
The accreditation status of a health service organisation already accredited to the NSQHS Standards will not be affected by a subsequent assessment to NSQDMH Standards. For example, if a health service organisation does not successfully meet the requirements of the NSQDMH Standards in its first assessment, there are no implications for their accreditation status to the NSQHS Standards.
Where risk or issues with the organisation’s safety and quality systems are identified during assessment to the NSQDMH Standards, it is expected that strategies to address these will be implemented.
