The consultation will close on 20 November 2024.

The Falls Guidelines are designed to be used by a range of health professionals, primary and community providers and the aged care workforce in delivering effective fall prevention interventions.
The new guidelines will replace the 2009 version and have been informed by the latest research, led by Neuroscience Research Australia in collaboration with the Australian and New Zealand Falls Prevention Society. Targeted consultation on the reference documents was undertaken in 2024.

Background
These Guidelines have been updated as part of the Commission’s work developing a new clinical standard (Standard 5 – Clinical Care) in the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards (Quality Standards). Review of the Quality Standards to require best practice fall prevention and mobility enhancement for older people was a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
Actions on fall prevention are an important part of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.
