This core operational role supports the work of the Comprehensive care and Communicating for Safety programs of work which are in the Integrated Care Stream of the Commission’s work.
The Comprehensive Care and Communicating for Safety program recognises that communication and care planning is integral to all aspects of patient care. These two standards work together to ensure that there is a comprehensive plan for care developed with the patient which is accurately and carefully communicated and discussed between treating clinicians, members of a multidisciplinary team, and between clinicians and patients, families and carers. The program supports implementation of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. The NSQHS Standards provide a nationally consistent statement of the level of care consumers can expect from health service organisations.
The Project Officer will work to the Chief Nursing Officer to support the program’s activities. This includes project planning and management, maintaining and updating resources, assisting in strategic planning and analysis, providing secretariat support for committees and preparing procurement and contract documentation.
The Project Officer will be expected to work with limited supervision, within a small team context and with internal and external stakeholders. The position requires excellent skills in communication, problem solving and time management.
Duties of the Project Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Undertake project management activities including input into project planning and documentation; assistance with implementation; monitoring and reporting on progress, identifying problems and proposing possible solutions.
- Provide secretariat support for committees and expert groups, including preparation of agenda papers, meeting notes, logistics and other administrative tasks.
- Research, review and analyse data, reports, published material and expert opinion to provide information and advice to support the development of projects and program initiatives.
- Collate, edit and draft meeting papers, correspondence, discussion papers, submissions, consultation materials, briefing notes and other written materials associated with the program.
- Undertake end to end procurement and contract management activities including financial administration via the Commission’s financial administration system (SAP), processing of invoices and budget preparation and monitoring as necessary.
- Collaborate with other team members and other program teams within the Commission to support the work of the team.
- Liaise with national and state authorities, professional organisations, individuals and non- government organisations to progress the program’s work priorities.
- Other duties as required which may include assisting the Commission’s corporate functions.
The successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated project management skills and experience.
- Strong conceptual, analytical and research skills, including demonstrated sound judgement and innovative problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated strong writing skills, including the ability to write high level documents including briefing papers, reviews, submissions and meeting papers.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively and develop productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- An understanding of Australia’s healthcare system.
