Fact Sheet: National Inpatient Medication Chart (NIMC) for Day Procedure Services

This fact sheet describes the requirements for documenting medicines-related information in line with the intent of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards

  • Action 4.01 requires clinicians to use the organisation’s policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective medication management. This action also requires clinicians to manage risks and develop or maintain skills for the effective and safe management of medicines.
  • Action 4.06 requires organisations to document a patient’s medication history, treatment plan and reconciliation.
  • Action 4.07 and 4.08 require documentation of allergies, adverse events and drug reactions.
