Safety and quality of end-of-life care in acute hospitals: a background paper

The purpose of this background paper was to present a précis of the policy and clinical framework for end-of-life care within the Australian acute healthcare setting and as interpreted by consumers, clinicians and policy makers in 2013.

This paper provided a platform for discussion that informed future work of the Commission to improve the safety and quality of end-of-life care including the development of the National Consensus Statement: Essential elements for safe high-quality end-of-life care
