National Infection Control Guidance Non-tuberculous Mycobacterium infections associated with heater-cooler devices
The National Infection Control Guidance: Non-tuberculous Mycobacterium infections associated with heater-cooler devices has been revised to reflect recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advice about devices and non-Mycobacterium species implicated in the transmission of these infections.
Australian health service organisations should continue to be aware of the infection risks associated with devices that have built-in water reservoirs. This guidance should be used in conjunction with safety notices, alerts and advice provided by state and territory health authorities and the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare.
This guidance was initially published in 2016 and was revised in 2017, 2018, 2020.
