Celebrating 10 years of Clinical Care Standards in Australia
On behalf of the Commission, I am delighted to announce that we are celebrating 10 years of Clinical Care Standards in Australia.
We have achieved this milestone in partnership with many remarkable clinicians, services, patients and consumers Australia-wide – and we want to hear your stories.
The first Clinical Care Standard – for antimicrobial stewardship – was published in November 2014; with a total of 19 standards now released for a wide range of health conditions.
Clinical Care Standards play an integral role in ensuring Australians receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Evidence shows that they have had a significant impact on care. Our 2023 evaluation report highlighted the benefits for antimicrobial stewardship, hip fracture care and delirium care. New research demonstrates that adherence to the Hip Fracture Clinical Care Standard is associated with markedly reduced mortality.
Recognising best practice care: call for submissions
It is vital we continue to recognise exemplary health services and share their learnings. To mark this anniversary, we are inviting submissions that demonstrate excellence in the implementation of Clinical Care Standards and a positive impact on patient outcomes.
The Commission has an ongoing commitment to develop and review the Clinical Care Standards to make Australia’s health care safer, more effective and more evidence based. Together we must strive for appropriate high-value care in our health system.
