10th Anniversary of Clinical Care Standards
The Commission is celebrating 10th years of Clinical Care Standards in Australia.
To mark this milestone in November 2024, clinicians and health services were invited to share their stories about successfully implementing one of our Clinical Care Standards and improvements in patient care. Submissions are now being reviewed and the best will be published by mid 2025.
Overview
In November 2024, the Commission celebrated 10 years of Clinical Care Standards in Australia, achieved in partnership with the many dedicated and passionate clinicians, researchers and consumers who have helped to develop and implement the Standards.
This milestone marks 10 years of delivering quality improvement to Australia’s healthcare system; providing the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Clinical Care Standards describe the care that people can expect to be offered for a specific clinical condition, treatment, procedure or clinical pathway, no matter where they are treated in Australia.

Background
The first Clinical Care Standard - on antimicrobial stewardship - was released on 18 November 2014. Since then, a total of 19 Clinical Care Standards have been developed, with more currently in progress.
Review the 10-year timeline for the Clinical Care Standards, showing when they were published and updated.
Evidence shows that Clinical Care Standards have had a significant impact on patient care. They are also helping to ensure we provide appropriate high-value care across our health system.
In 2023, an evaluation report assessed the impact of three Clinical Care Standards - for antimicrobial stewardship, hip fracture and delirium.
Your stories of excellence
It is important that we recognise the high quality care provided by so many Australian health services. Its also important to share information and learn from each other so that we can all continue to improve.
To mark the 10th anniversary, the Commission has asked health services to submit their quality improvement stories demonstrating their achievements and successes in implementing our Clinical Care Standards.
The best submissions will be showcased and shared by the Commission.
Submissions have now closed and are being reviewed by the Commission. Stay tuned for updates and thank you to all those who have submitted their stories.
