Did you know that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects around 1 in 13 people over the age of 40 and is a leading cause of avoidable hospitalisations?
Despite its prevalence, this serious and debilitating lung condition remains under recognised, underdiagnosed and undertreated in Australia.
Today the Commission has published the first national standard to support better diagnosis and management of the condition – the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Clinical Care Standard.
Tune-in to our launch to hear experts discuss how to provide optimal care for people with COPD. Although there is no cure for COPD, a range of interventions can ease symptoms, reduce exacerbations and improve quality of life.
Recommendations in the Standard include accurate diagnosis with spirometry, non-medication management strategies such as pulmonary rehabilitation, and adopting a step-wise approach to medication.
