Requirements for laboratory testing for human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis C virus will come into effect on 1 May 2023.

The Commission released the fourth edition of Requirements for laboratory testing for immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) on 19 April 2023.

Requirements for laboratory testing for human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis C virus will come into effect on 1 May 2023. The amendment to Schedule 1 of the Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories—Approval) Principles 2017 has now been published.

What does this mean for Australian pathology laboratories?

If your laboratory provides testing for HIV and HCV, then you will be required to comply with the fourth edition.
