National Pathology Accreditation Scheme

The Commission, in consultation with the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC), has released a fact sheet on the retention period for coronavirus disease-19 test samples which is now reduced to one week.

This fact sheet assists pathology providers with implementation of the ninth edition of the Retention standard which came into effect on Friday 22 April 2022.

NPAAC’s requirements for the retention of laboratory records and diagnostic material (the Retention standard) has also been updated under Schedule 1 of the Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories—Approval) Principles 2017.
