Revised Diagnostic Reference Levels for Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography

The Commission has released a new Advisory DI 23/01: Revised Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) for Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography.

Advisory DI23/01: Revised Diagnostic Reference Levels for Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography

The advisory informs imaging practices that:

  • The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency has revised the national DRLs for nuclear medicine and positron emission tomography and published the DRLs on its website.
  • There is a six month transition period from the previous DRLs to the revised DRLs.
  • From 1 January 2024, accrediting agencies will assess if:
    • Policies for undertaking a DRL comparison have been updated
    • The facility reference levels have been compared against the revised DRLs.

Please familiarise yourself with this advisory. It is a requirement of the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme that imaging practices are compliant with relevant advisories.
