What do clinicians need to know? 

The Management of Peripheral Intravenous Catheters Clinical Care Standard includes ten evidence-based quality statements to promote the skillful use of peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) and to reduce complications including infections.

Purpose

To minimise complications by ensuring that PIVCs are removed safely when they are no longer needed, when they malfunction or when complications develop. Replacement with a new device only occurs when IV therapy needs to continue.
