Patient-Reported Measures

The person-centred care approach respects and responds to the preferences, needs and values of patients.

Collecting and using Patient-Reported Measures helps health organisations and clinicians understand what is important to the patient.

Patient-Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) are used to ask patients about the degree to which their health care needs were met. The Commission developed the Australian Hospital Patient Experience Question Set as a free PREMs tool along with supporting resources such as translations in 20 languages and an easy English version.

For more information on PREMs, please contact the Commission at PEX@safetyandquality.gov.au

Patient-Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) capture a person’s perception of their quality of life, daily functioning, symptoms and other aspects of their health and wellbeing. The Commission has published a list of validated PROMs for assessing general health and for specific high-burden conditions. There are hundreds of PROMs available and so it is important to consider which PROM is the most appropriate to use. Information on selecting PROMs outlines key considerations to support this decision making.

For any enquiries about PROMs, please contact the Commission at indicators@safetyandquality.gov.au
