Using the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights to support diversity and inclusion

The Charter describes the rights that consumers, or someone they care for, can expect when receiving health care.

These rights apply to all people in all places where health care is provided in Australia.

The Charter can be adapted to meet the specific needs of the state, territory, local district or health service organisation and can be a significant way of demonstrating an inclusive and safe environment for diverse communities; however, the seven original rights should remain in place.

Below are three versions of the Charter – click on each Charter to learn more about them. If you have adapted the Charter to better support your consumers or staff send us a copy, we’d love to share.
