The core hospital-based outcome indicators (CHBOIs) contain a range of indicators which have been developed to enhance safety and quality reporting and feedback.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission), working in collaboration with the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA), engaged Health Policy Analysis to analyse hospital-acquired diagnoses and their effect on case complexity and resource use.

This paper has been prepared by the Commission and IHPA to supplement the research undertaken to date with regards to pricing for safety and quality in health care.
